The Ocean Chair Collection

Plastic pollution is one of the most urgent environmental challenges of our time. Each year, millions of tons of plastic enter our oceans, threatening marine life and delicate ecosystems.

In 2016, Humanscale became the first manufacturer to turn discarded fishing nets into chairs. Since then, the Ocean Collection has expanded to include Smart Ocean, Liberty Ocean, Path, Diffrient Occasional, and now Freedom Ocean.

Why Our Oceans Need Saving

By 2050, there will be more plastic than fish in our oceans. Discarded fishing nets account for roughly 20% of this waste and are considered the most harmful type, as they drift for years, damaging coral reefs and “ghost fishing” marine wildlife. We're creating products that begin to reverse the damage already done.

Leading the Ocean Plastic Revolution

When we first set out to turn discarded fishing nets into chairs in 2016, no other manufacturer had yet accomplished this feat. This made for an arduous start, but has become one of our most overwhelmingly impactful endeavors, with other manufacturers now following suit. Here's a bird's eye view at our journey that's only just begun.
